The UN Water Conference, co-organized by the Governments of Tajikistan and the Netherlands, will include an opening and closing ceremony, six plenary meetings, and five interactive multi-stakeholder dialogues. It will also include several high-level special events and side events organized by Member States, the UN system, and other stakeholders.
It is within this framework that the African Leaders Factory Initiative (ALFI), accredited by the 76th President of the United Nations General Assembly H. E. Abdullah SHAHID by paragraph 16 of Annex II of General Assembly resolution 75/212, will host in partnership with youth associations, experts, and civil society is organizing an African Youth Conference on Water to assess the actions undertaken in Africa for the achievement of the SDG 6: Ensure access to sustainably managed water supply and sanitation services for all. The outcome document of the conference will include a summary of the conference discussions and the new commitments, pledges, and actions of governments and all stakeholders to achieve SDG 6 and other water-related goals and targets, compiled in the Water Agenda for Action.
The UN Water Conference 2023 and the Water Agenda will unite the world for water. The main building blocks of the Water Agenda are:
– A commitment to action
– Sustainable and scalable implementation
– Monitoring and reviewing processes
These elements will enable the replication and scaling up of what works and provide effective solutions at the global level.
The conference will be held online on Thursday, March 23, 2023, starting at 11:00 GMT and will be streamed live on the official African Leaders Factory Initiative (ALFI) website and social media.

The moderated event will start with a statement by the Secretary General of the United Nations H.E António Guterres, the President of African Leaders Factory Initiative (ALFI) Mr. Babacar J. Diop, a Civil Society Representative followed by three panels moderated by each of the young leaders and social entrepreneurs, national and international experts, civil society representatives, development partners who will address the following:
– Water for climate, resilience, and the environment: source to sea, biodiversity, climate, resilience and DRR (SDGs 6.5, 6.6, 7, 11.5, 13, 14, 15)
– Water for innovation and inclusion: a public-private partnership in water, international cooperation, including technological and scientific cooperation, and equitable access to water in the context of the 2030 Agenda (SDGs 6.5, 6.b and 16, 17)
– Youth Water Management: Challenges, Opportunities, and Solutions (SDGs 6.4, 6.5, 6.6, 6.b.1, 16, 17)
The floor will then be opened for discussion and questions from civil society and representatives.
